Jack and Abi’s wedding day at Danby Castle, including a stunning sunset photoshoot on the Moors, was truly an incredible experience! I had such an amazing time from start to finish that it will remain one of my most cherished wedding memories. That entire day was full of energy and excitement!
Danby Castle Barn Weddings
The majestic Danby Castle was constructed in the 14th century by the illustrious Latimer family, some of the most powerful nobles of medieval England. Legend has it that some of the original stone from Castleton – which had been destroyed by a devastating fire – were used to build its walls.
A quadrangular castle with a central courtyard and four towers at each corner, when the Latimers ran out of heirs, their estate passed to Elizabeth Latimer’s descendant John 3rd Baron Neville of Raby. After her death in 1396, control passed onto her son John who came into power when he turned 21.
In his third marriage to Catherine Parr, John Neville moved into Danby Castle as their marital home where she eventually became Henry VIII’s sixth wife. From then on, ownership shifted over to Sir Henry Danvers who was made Earl of Danby followed later by John Dawnay and his family until present day.
While much is now in ruins, three towers remain intact as well as parts of other buildings such as a farmhouse and court house used for wedding ceremonies today. The SouthEast tower still stands tall while repairs were made during 19th century and restored around 1960s for its current manorial design.
The Pre-Wedding Party
Jack and Abi had a cozy cottage prior to their big day, and invited all of their wedding guests to stay for a few days, making sure the mood was relaxed and jovial before the festivities. The night before their nuptials they held an intimate pre-wedding gathering that set the tone for an incredibly special celebration.
The wedding preparation
Jack and Abi had a blast preparing for their nuptials with an abundance of bridesmaids and groomsmen by their side! Not only did it make the party atmosphere even more joyous, but it also presented some great opportunities to capture stunning group photos throughout the day.
The Dress
Abi radiated pure beauty in her Halfpenny London wedding gown, while her bridesmaids dazzled in their bespoke outfits made from the same fabric – each one completed with a hand-tied bouquet of English blooms.
The Boys
Jack and his groomsmen looked absolutely debonair in their black tie outfits, topped off with classy sunglasses for a timelessly stunning photoshoot before the wedding ceremony at the picturesque Danby Castle.
The Photos
Jack and Abi’s special day at Danby Castle was filled with beauty. The rustic setting, the ruins of the castle, and the moors provided endless possibilities for capturing beautiful memories. But nothing could compare to photographing Jack and Abi during sunset – it was truly magical!
We danced the evening away!!
The day drifted effortlessly into the night, and with it came a buzz of excitement that whisked everyone away to the dance floor. It was an eruption of joy – as if someone had electrified the air! The energy continued from beginning to end, leaving us with a truly thrilling experience that will live in our memories for years to come. From start to finish, it was a whirlwind of whimsy and delight – it’s a wedding I will never forget!
